Proposed packaging Idea...

Wanted to make my small sweet boxes more interesting just running through a few ideas.

Think the above could be a keeper!!!!!!!!

Just a little look into how the range might look.

Testing Nets...

After gaining a rough idea of how I wanted my packaging to work and look I went about designing my nets in illustrator, carefully considering dimensions throughout this process, to ensure that the nets not only worked for themselves but together i.e. the small boxes fitted nicely into the gift box.
          Below are photographs of my flat nets the big question being do they work when put together????

Sweet boxes...

After looking at packaging in my context I made up this little box. I figured the lid might be sealed by a sicker or a little fold.

Sweet Packaging rough...

Just a little mock up of my indervidual sweet boxes, looking mostly at dimentions 8cm by 10.

I feel like I need to do a little more with it. So I looked into similar packaging and found this, I plan to take this net into consideration and modify this to my own packaging.

Net, Sweet bag...

With my gift box being the central packaging I need to design the other packaging around this to create my range my bags being one of them. Below is an outline of my net shown in a terrible photograph.

I roughed up my nets along with the artwork on the outside in pencil from this experimentation, i am really liking the stripe design and want to use the running theme of the canopy throughout my packaging range. 

The bag will be sealed by a flavour sticker one thing I will take into consideration when putting together my final bag is the fact that the canopy structure on the outside does not join up well.

Another consideration Is that the sticker needs to be further from the branding.

New Net 2...

Taking the rough net into a account i made a better one out of card, The dimensions were a little out but altogether It came together quite well. I don't really lie the handle and the roof is a little steep but generally I think the idea has potential just need to map it out in illustrator and consider the dimensions more carefully.

New Net.....

After attempting the McDonalds Idea I found that when the dimensions of the opening mechanism was changed the box did not shut as true as I hoped.
I also found that the boxes inside would not be easily assessable. So.....I have decided to change the net but not the overall look of the box.
          To the left are some rough flats on how I hope the net will work, along with some rough artwork.

above is how the net will look made up, I figured it would be nice to make the package resemble a classic sweet shop front with the canvas canopy overhanging. The new open front means the content will be more assessable.

I made some roughs to see if it works open and closed, I will make a more sturdy version tomorrow.

Making My Net....

After looking at the happy meal box I made my own very rough prototype to see if it would work. First of all I had a go at drawing It with any luck It will turn out the same!

And it seemed to work quite well the sides didn't hold to well but I put that down to flimsy stock.
I decided I would find out by making a similar net out of card. (Below)

In Conclusion I found that for the tabs on the sides to join up correctly they needed to be longer the only way to do this would be to make my box into a cube and this would ruin the design. Also after looking closely at the happy meal there is a reason why there is a slant in the box and this is to make the flaps larger so they fit this would also ruin my design. So back to the drawing board it would seem!

How do Happy meals Work?......

After drawing my container I realised it needed a net!

The only thought I had in my head at this time was I wanted the package to open at the top. And this made me think of McDonald's happy meals. So feeling hungry I headed down to buy one after buying it and getting a few odd looks I took the net apart to see how It worked and figure out could it be modified for my own Idea....

I also took a little look inside to see what stuck to what.

After laying out the net I had a go at making my own with modified dimensions.
