I feel more than anything my confidence has grown throughout this module. And throughout the first year i have used the module as a platform and have explored all different types of media and techniques from video to screen printing on a whole i feel like my whole practice is coming together just in time for second year by deliberately dragging myself out of my comfort zone and trying new things i believe i have grown as a designer and am now at the stage where i'm bringing what i'v learned and my style together. one skill i have acquired is video and moving image i have learned how effective this can be as a tool for communicating your message in a variety levels. I now feel confident in applying this in the future. I have also learned to streamline my ideas and always get the message across first the rest tends to slot into place after that. I have also gained a greater understanding about grid this in turn has given me a greater understanding of layout and how information can be demonstrated in a variety of ways. I now have a good understanding of screen printing and all the processes this involves this has given me an appreciation of time management in turn.
What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
I have found Primary research the most effective there is nothing better than contact i feel you get a real response and a more personal touch. Identifying the appropriate people is one thing but finding them and talking to them massively improves your understanding. Also very important is experience going out and experiencing your topic is to truly understand. Knowing someone is better than reading about them i find. A great research technique is to use all your senses to smell touch etc I feel this exploration has best informed my design development.
What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
I think my main strength is my style i have worked hard to develop this and will carry this onto the second year. As well as this my ideas and range of products. I think another strength i have is my ability to take one idea and get to the solution with speed i feel this will put me in good stead for the second year and into my third.
What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?
My massive weakness is research i don't give enough time to this and an product is only as good as the research behind it . I have a habit of taking an idea and getting to involved in the process this can cause me to lose sight of its purpose i get carried away and need to take a stop back and reflect on occasion. I need more patience and give more time to the bits around the edges as they are the foundations of any work so i need to find an appreciation for them.
Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1. Give a lot more time to research.
2. Record my thought processes on paper, blog and photography.
3. Keep things simple i feel i have a habit of overcomplicating things.
4. Keep learning from my mistakes.
5. Develop more mock ups and generally improve crafting.
How would you grade yourself in the following areas?
(5 = excellent, 1 = poor)
Attendance 4
Punctuality 4
