Thomas Edison...

Thomas Edison is most famous inventing the 1st working light bulb and direct current. His most iconic invention however is the lightbulb and this posses the most visual potential, so with this simple shape I have planned a very simple animation to see how this works out.

To help visualise my thinking I have prepared a short and sweet storyboard.

So I drew what was needed a light bulb and a couple of wires to power it.

I have taken the above and compiled them as basic layers (extending the wires) with a background to see how it will all appear on screen.

The animation in short is the wires leading to the lightbulb, and the lightbulb lighting up.

I will create the illusion of the lightbulb lighting up by making the layers for the animation within photoshop.

As well as the illustrations I will make a separate layer with a render.

I then applied the same render to the lightbulb (1) to make (2).

In brief the animation runs like this.

1. The bulb and wires come into focus.

2. Bulb is ready to light up.

3. Lightbulb lights to its full power.

Below is a small video to show this process.
